Brisbane River Update

The great flood of 2011 in the Brisbane River in January has been well documented however there are many stories of the community response to this event. Many people have volunteered and assisted to reclaim, repair and restore the riverfront with good will. Now this is also moving through with insurance, commercial and residential projects being undertaken in consultation with the authorities who have reviewed the event to see how we can improve in the future. Some of the sites have changed dramatically with the graphic obtained using an underwater sonar device finding piles for a customer that we thought were lost. This and many other innovative solutions are in process however with so much change to the water depth and shoreline there are many surprises as well. We are working as quickly as possible to provide satisfactory solutions to clients.

Cavill Ave Public Pontoon Now Open

The Gold Coast City Council has just opened a new pontoon on the river at the western end of Cavill Avenue. Superior Jetties was proud to supply their Super Elite™ system to provide a long life, durable asset for the city. A number of Superior’s sustainability concepts were used in the project including recycled wood/plastic composite decking, fibre composite bolts and disabled access gangways. The finishing touch on the pontoon is the patented Superior Fender™ that allows boaties to berth without needing to use boat fenders. This heavy duty commercial product is proving a hit with local government and marinas so expect to see lots more in the future.  View Map

Sanctuary Cove Marina rolls out the welcoming mat

Marinas provide a valuable service to the community and not just the boating public. The social and economic benefits are well known along with environmental responsibility that contributes to a sustainable industry. Some marinas have all their berths occupied with permanent customers and do not provide causal berthing to allow for visitors. Sanctuary Cove Marina is to be congratulated on a new initiative - Manager Helen and her team have provided a highly visible visitor berthing area that really makes an impact as you arrive. This obvious welcome allows boaties to stop at Sanctuary Cove to indulge in their shopping, dining and entertainment offerings.

Busy International schedule

The boat show season has now arrived and quite a few Australian companies are exhibiting at Yacht and Boat Korea on May 4th to 8th. This show has grown considerably in recent years with the guidance of Barry Jenkins from Australia. Superior Jetties will be there with our licensee Shin Hwa Marine and Managing Director John Hogan will be a guest speaker at the event. The ICOMIA International Marina Conference follows the next week in Singapore and Sanctuary Cove International Boat show the week after! We hope to see you at one of the events and we have some exciting new products to show you.

Helpful Hints

This week we received a call from one of our customers who has experienced the dreaded mould growth on the carpet of his residential pontoon. This natural phenomenon can occur on the shaded areas of a pontoon. Whilst a high pressure wash down makes a significant impact, Bruce from Isle of Capri, who purchased his pontoon 6 years ago, has relayed the information that he has used a litre of white vinegar neat, that he then scrubbed into the carpet, then washed down and achieved a great result..
